The benefits of massage therapy

Many people who have had a nice relaxing massage often wonder if there are other benefits too, and many people who have never had a massage, wonder what all the fuss is about. In which category are you?

There are many benefits to a massage, but we can divide them all into 4 categories.

Lower Stress & Improve Mental Health

Long term stress is known for its adverse effects on your physical and mental health, and massage therapy is one of the most effective ways to manage stress. There has been considerable research into the effect of massage therapy on stress. In short, during a massage, your heart rate will decrease, your blood pressure, oxygen consumption, and cortisol levels will all drop. Not only will this leave you relaxed physically, it will also assist greatly towards a feeling of calmness and serenity. With this comes the added benefit of less tension headaches and backaches.

Massage Therapy with the right combination of essential oils can be a powerful tool to manage anxiety and depression. A massage will leave you calm and thinking clearly.

Massage therapy has been shown to relieve depression, especially in people who have chronic fatigue syndrome; other studies also suggest benefit for other populations.

Increase Immune Function

During a massage, there is an improvement in blood circulation and lymph drainage. Both of these will result in a flush of toxins out of your body, thus improving your immune system. Interesting studies have been done to research the effect of massage on pregnant woman, on HIV men and more, and massage has shown a positive contribution to a stronger immune system every time. Add to that the strong boost you can give your immune system with the right combination of essential oils!

“Massage is considered to be an effective method to strengthen the immune system, as it combines essential oil application with touch, entering through the largest organ in our bodies, our skin.”

Pain Management

In our modern world, pain medication make pain management a lot easier than several 100 years ago, but with that comes a myriad of adverse side effects. This has lead to a recent ongoing study comparing pain management through opioids, with massage therapy. Massage Therapists around the world know from experience how much massage therapy can help to relieve pain and we are all eagerly awaiting science to confirm it. Whether you are suffering from muscle, joint or nerve pain, massage therapy is a wonderful alternative to painkillers. Discuss your needs with me before the massage to ensure I use a blend of oils specific to your condition.

Given the … multidisciplinary philosophy, I was surprised by the absence of alternative pain approaches – the whole spectrum of cranial-sacral massage, healing-touch therapy, and other hands-on skills that are a lifeline to many people with chronic pain. Alternative therapies are hard to evaluate, but that’s no reason not to explore them.

Improve Physical Fitness

You don’t have to be a career athlete to appreciate how much massage therapy can contribute to your physical wellness. Several studies have shown that regular massage therapy will contribute to the prevention of injuries in any sport. And if you have injured yourself already, a sports massage will help you to recover faster. Even if you are a couch potato, massage therapy will contribute to your mobility, thus contributing to your health.

A business man needs a laptop. Athletes need massages and the right diet.

Aromatic Inhalers

I am so excited to share this new range with you! The sinus inhalers have been flying out of the studio since I started making them, so it only made sense to give you more inhalers to choose from. But you are probably wondering what this is exactly and why it works…. So let’s start there….

Inhalation of aromatic substances is very effective and generally very safe. Diffusers are quite trendy at the moment, but they can be very costly and they are not portable. Nasal inhalers are a much cheaper and easier option. Inhalation is effective because of two reasons:

  • The aromatic substances are inhaled, absorbed through the respiratory tract and the lungs, and then circulated through the body by the blood stream.
  • The olfactory system, which includes all the organs and systems related to your sense of smell is directly linked to your limbic system, that part of the brain involved with feelings, emotions etc. An aromatic substance can thus influence your limbic system within seconds of inhaling it.

The inhalers I make, contains ONLY pure essential oils, nothing else. With these inhalers, you can have a mini pharmacy in your pocket and there are a whopping 10 inhalers to choose from!

Brain Support: This blend will motivate you, and help you to concentrate and maintain your focus.

Mind Support: This blend will help you cope with stress, anxiety and depression.

Nose Support: This blend has proven itself already. This is the sinus inhaler I have been giving with sinusitis treatments. But there is an improvement to the blend! It will relieve that horrible stuffy nose that comes with a cold, flu, sinus or hay-fever.

Immune Support: This blend will boost your immunity and help your body deal with sickness, including viral infections. It will also help you to recover faster.

Lung Support: This blend is designed to assist with a tight congested chest and coughing.

Head Support: This blend will provide relief for any headache or migraine.

Energy Support: This blend will give you that much needed boost when you need it most.

Sleep Support: This blend is for those restless nights when the sandman is held up somewhere. It is an absolute must when traveling.

Stomach Support: This blend will provide relief for general nausea, motion sickness and morning sickness.

Love Support: This is a gentle aphrodisiac to boost the passion and energy.

Each inhaler can easily last up to three months with daily use, as long as the cap is replaced securely after each use. All of them are safe during pregnancy as well.
